Building a Better Business While Building a Better Bod!

Day Two

Kept it all in check yesterday — slept great and woke up pretty much ready to tackle anything… that is… except the pool.  I psyched myself up because I LOVE using the pool in the summer.  My gym membership includes use of the college pool – but, if you don’t get there on time there’s no lane for you.  Same with business really… if you don’t get there on time, everyone’s passing you by, there’s no room and you never get anything accomplished.

Up at 6 a.m., I putz around, drink some coffee, typical stall tactic.  But, I said I would do it, so I did.  And, guess what?  There WERE no lanes.  I went and washed my car.

But, here’s the thing.  As I was washing my car, I felt like I was kind of missing out on something and thought, “Now, where is that going to get me in my business, if I’m constantly putting off what might make me feel rejected (or left out because, remember, I’m worried about being the one without a lane), chickening out on activities that don’t feel comfortable, or point blank…in the bigger picture… procrastinating on things that I just don’t want to do?”  No where.  It gets me no where.  I decided to hit the weights instead and think about this a little more – during my upper body routine I listened to an audio consult I had a few months back.  40 minutes later, my arms are tired, I gained some renewed confidence, and decided I’d try the pool again later today.

Fast forward to 1:30 in the afternoon.  I’m deliberating… a-gain.  As I’m deliberating (okay, procrastinating), whether I should go give the swimming thing another try, I started thinking about areas of procrastination in my business – putting off the dreaded tasks, taking that extra step to make myself more successful, raising my rates, etc.  Oh, keep in mind – I love to swim!  And, really… I love my business.  Where am I going to get myself if I don’t take the chance, and why was I so afraid of the going to pool and not having a lane??

My thoughts go back to so long ago…back to Day One:  “Not doing this is NOT an option” – off to the pool I go at 2:30 in the afternoon.  And, you know what?  There were a few people there.  I decide to find a locker, wait it out and… guess what?  I had my own lane!  35 minutes later, while having time to ponder under water, I visualize myself reeeeallly stretching during the length of my laps to parallel  the thought of stretching myself to the limits of my business.  Keep reaching, longer and stronger, and you’ll get to where you want to be that much quicker.

Now, really… how hard was that?
