Blog Post: Free Friday Recommendations

Did anyone take me up on the Augusten Burroughs selections I recommended last week?  Be brave – read his stuff!  Far from Burrough’s style of writing, I’m currently reading The Other Side of Suffering: The Father of JonBenet Ramsey Tells the Story of His Journey from Grief to Grace, lent to me by my good friend and writer, Carrie Malinowski. I’m half way through the book, and I’ll admit I’ve had  harbored suspicions that her parents were involved… we’ll see if reading his version of the story changes my thinking.   I’m just at the chapter where Pasty has succumbed to cancer and now feeling a little sad for the family.  Click this link for suggestions on best-selling memoirs — so many to readSigns of Life by Natalie Taylor and Wild by Cheryl Strayed.  And, just because I’m a diehard 80’s fan and can’t wait to see Van Halen this weekend, there are even a few to satisfy my rock ‘n roll palate:  Does the Noise Inside My Head Bother You? A Rock ‘n Roll Memoir by Steven Tyler, and It’s So Easy: and other lies by Duff McCagan (of Guns ‘n Roses.  It’s the summer of memoir!  Which ones have you read, and which ones do you recommend?  When you recommend one to me I’ll add you to a monthly drawing – you could win a favorite book, a gift card or a journal.

I’m a Nook owner – I download everything on Free Friday — Today’s Free Fridays selection is the perfect Father’s Day read: GUTSHOT STRAIGHT by Lou Berney. If you love Elmore Leonard or Carl Hiaasen, you won’t want to miss it!
