Blog Post: Three-Tip Thursday

In my writing business, people sometimes ask:  “What should I do if I want to start writing my life story?”  Here are my tips and suggestions for any writing project.

  • Tip 1:  Start small.  Just start.  Pick a story or event that was important and write what you remember.  Then, put it away and do another one.  You can always refine later once you have a few under your belt.
  • Tip 2:  Don’t set too many guidelines for yourself, at the onset.  A personal history or memoir doesn’t have to be a chronological history of your life.  It can be whatever you want it to be.  It’s easy to get overwhelmed; make it your project with your rules.
  • Tip 3:  Establish a routine time for writing.  This goes for any project.  Once it’s on your calendar, it’s easier to stick with it.  Five minutes, 10 minutes, a half an hour, a half a day.  You pick. Plan it and make it work for you.

What are your favorite tips for writing or business projects?  Let me know or comment on the blog.
