Memoir Monday: Best Dog Ever

Snow dog – her favorite thing to do

I couldn’t let today go by without a post highlighting and remembering our favorite sweet dog, Casey, who left us a year ago today.   Here are just a few things that I learned from having her around:

  • Four feet can keep you more stable. Losing footing is no fun no matter how you look at it.
  • Eat when you’re hungry, drink when you’re thirsty.  Sounds too simple, but it works.
  • Sit (or lay) when someone else is talking and let them talk. Listening is a quality that few have mastered.
  • Get outside every day to bask in the sun. What better way is there to show appreciation of nature?
  • Curling up really does keep you warmer. Enough said.

Sigh. Taking a last look from the deck where she loved to hang out.

  • Standing in front of the cabinet until you get your food works quite well. (persistence)
  • Marking your territory lets others know you’re the expert.
  • A long sigh is just the trick to relieve the stress.  (There were many long sighs from all of us during her last days.)

I always said I would not look forward to the day that she wasn’t going to be around. Our house and hearts are empty, and we miss her still.  But, we know she’s still around, and we are absolutely sure she knows how much she enriched our lives and made us laugh.  For Casey.

I’m right there with you. We had just this kind of dog that you never forget.
