Three Tip Thursday: Start a Mini Memoir!

I launched the Prescott Memoir Project in June, and it runs through December 25, 2012.  My hope is to collect 100 personal essays about Prescott written by residents of Prescott and surrounding areas.  It’s not a contest, just a way to promote the importance of preserving personal stories and family histories.  At this point, you might be asking yourself, “How do I participate?”  Here are three tips to get you started:

  1. Think back to one of your favorite stories about Prescott.  Now, we all have a lot of great memories about something that happened in our town.  Maybe your first Christmas holiday, or a favorite Bird Cage story.  Don’t stress out by thinking you have to pick the best story, just choose one of your favorites.
  2. Write what you remember without editing.
  3. Do a once over and fill in the blanks without overediting.  Count the words — 500 or less?  You’re in!

There!  You’re ready for the Prescott Memoir Project.  Email me for the official guidelines and where to send your story.  We can all benefit from promoting the importance of these stories. I look forward to hearing from you!
